Fancy Scribbles

Earlier in June I was fortunate enough to spend an evening at Hotel ZaZa in Uptown Dallas surrounded by beautiful florals from Bows And Arrows, drinking lemonade, tasting delicious mini doughnuts from Cakewalkn, and learning the basics of Copperplate Calligraphy from Laura Hooper.
My cute desk set up. :)

Really enjoyed this small class. When you think of three hours of writing it doesn't sound like much fun but honestly the class flew by. Time flies when you're having fun and who knew using a nib and ink would be considered fun?! Laura was a wonderful instructor. Our class was made up of nine other women which gave Laura the opportunity to work with each of us individually. I haven't taken on any projects myself but I have been asked to do a few small jobs. I don't feel quite up to the standard I would like to be but soon I hope to be able to offer prints, addressing, and custom pieces. If you are unable to attend Laura's Classes (can purchase on Etsy) I would recommend getting her Starter Kit from Etsy for a small price of $65 to practice.
The kit includes:
adjustable oblique pen holder,
assortment of 3 nibs
pot of black ink
pot of white ink
instructional tips & techniques from Laura's personal experience including 3 alphabets
journal with gold foil letterpress cover & quality calligraphy paper inside (name personalization INSTEAD OF gold foil "practice makes perfect" available as an add-on)
3 sheets of vellum tracing paper
3 sheets of gridlined practice sheets (additional 24-sheet notepad available as an add-on)
