Wax On, Wax Off.

Yup, we are totally going there. I am a believer in bikini waxes. To me the benefits highly out weigh the risks. There is some evidence that the correct technique of removing the hair may actually damage the follicle. Might not sound like a plus, but it means that the hair may grow back thinner, finer and, in some cases, NOT AT ALL. Repeated waxing means fewer and fewer hairs to get rid of over time. Which I believe because even my waxer noticed I had less hair. Waxing is super fast, Mallory makes my appointment for 30 minutes and that is for the full Brazillian plus eye brows. So let me start by preparing you for the event.

Step 1 MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Find a highly recommended licensed professional. My wax costs $60 and that is the least you should expect to pay if you go to someone who really knows what they are doing. If you're local to me, I use Mallory at Rumours Spalon in Longview. She is wonderful. She is so down to earth and really makes an effort to make you comfortable to bare it all. Don't be embarrassed. It is their job. Do not schedule just before or during your period. It is much more painful. Mallory also suggested to make appointments in the AM so your body hasn't produced as much of its natural oils. The hair should be about 1/4 of an inch long to be properly waxed.

Step 2 EXFOLIATE
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and can also work out ingrown hairs. I exfoliate every time I shower the week prior to my wax, especially the night before. I recommend using Lush's Ocean Salt
Step 3 GO!
About a half an hour before your waxing appointment, take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen. If you are terrified of the pain one last trick is to apply a numbing cream. Over-the-counter topical solutions that contain LIDOCAINE should be effective. To me the pain is instant and quickly resides after every wax strip with no pain afterwards.  I would say I have a high pain tolerance but deep breathing and a great professional will lower the pain.

Step 4 Maintenance
No sun for 24 hours, your skin will easily burn. Also no exfoliating for 12 hours. Mallory recommended getting waxed every 3-4 weeks. My wax usually last me up to six weeks, it just varies.

For me this is part of my beauty routine now. I have been waxed 4 times, each time having great results. Now that its bikini season I really do not want to have to worry about being embarrassed by hair or bumps on my bikini line! Yikes! Waxing is not for everyone, that is fine. I tried to convince some friends but only one of them gave it a try. Of course she liked it and now regularly goes to Mallory too.
